The Shire is an English draft horse breed originating from central England and is considered one of the tallest and most powerful horse breeds in the world. Historically bred for agricultural work, heavy hauling, brewery drays and industrial transport, the Shire became famous for its immense strength, calm temperament and impressive size.
Shires are especially recognized for their towering stature, broad muscular build, abundant feathering and calm, willing nature. Despite their size, they are often known for their gentle temperament and elegant movement.
