Coat Genetics | Overview
The Coat Genetics section provides a simple overview of the in-game breeding genes and the coat colors or patterns they represent within The Tackroom.
Here you can quickly look up which in-game gene belongs to which coat variation or pattern to help you choose the most breed-accurate horse for NEP breed standard competitions and events.
Within most NEP breed standard classes, coat judging is primarily based on whether the selected genes are considered breed-appropriate and realistic for the breed being shown (10 points). Additional points may also be awarded based on how realistically the coat and pattern are represented in-game (2 points).
What about Chimeras?
While chimera horses are relatively common within the in-game breeding system, they are not considered a true inheritable coat gene or pattern. Because of this, chimeras will generally not be permitted in NEP breed standard-focused competitions and classes.
This rule is not intended to discourage creativity or unique horses, but rather to help maintain a fair and consistent judging environment for realism-based events. In real life, true chimerism in horses is considered extremely rare and is viewed more as a genetic mutation than a standard coat variation.
