Crossbreeds

Crossbreeds are now available within The Tackroom. As many combinations are still being discovered and documented, crossbreeds are not currently included as individual entries within the NEP Breed Archive.

Registered crossbreeds are still welcome to participate in applicable NEP Breed Standard events. When judging breed accuracy, the standards of the breeds making up the registered cross will be used as reference.

The horse will therefore be judged on how realistically its height, coat genetics and overall breed representation reflect its parent breeds rather than against a separate crossbreed standard.

As more crossbreeds become established and sufficient information becomes available, the Breed Archive may be expanded to include them in the future.

Example: American Warmblood

An American Warmblood is a cross between a Thoroughbred and a Warmblood. Since crossbreeds do not have their own Breed Archive entries yet, the standards of both breeds in the cross will be used for judging.

For example, if your American Warmblood is registered as a Thoroughbred × Hanoverian, both the Thoroughbred and Hanoverian Breed Standards will be considered.

Your horse does not need to perfectly match one breed or the other. It should simply make sense as a mix of both. Its height and coat genetics can reflect traits from either side of the cross.

A trait will also not be considered unrealistic just because it is unrealistic in one of the breeds, as long as it is realistic for the other breed in the cross.
